Final Post

In this post I'm going to talk about my experience about material design course in this semester. This semester started a little bit different than the other ones. There was lots of sickness and snow which made first month a bit difficult to have classes other than that it went smoothly. Every activity and task that we prepared was interesting and also they were usable for teaching purposes in future. We did lots of group work and technology work too which are important for future teachers in terms of socially and futuristically. By the time we become teachers there will be lots of changes in education also during our career these changes will continue. One of the best sides of this course was that it actually prepare us for those changes. I learned a lot of things that i didn't know I could use while teaching such as augmented reality.       The hard part of it was the group projects for me actually because I have never liked group projects since childhood. Another hardship w

Technology-Enhanced Research-Based Mini Project

For our final task me and my friends Beyza and Birdem prepared a WebQuest for our students.  We basically asked the students to prepare an online poster and a presentation. We explained every step to make an online poster and a presentation so that it would be easier for them to follow and do their task properly. For the topic we agreed on environmental issues to be more specific the environmental issues that are caused by humans. We think that it is a really interesting topic considering the situation that the earth is in.      Students are expected to read the 10 news that we shared with them and take notes on them. After reading the news we gave them list of questions that they need to answer for each news that they've read. And then a list is given to the students to write their and pair's name and the news that they chose for their poster and presentation. The students are going to do their tasks according to the rubric we gave them which includes some criteria for their

AR

For today ım going to talk about AR and my experience with it. Augmented Reality shortly AR is a technology that allows people to see, create or examine etc. the thing that are not phisically there but technologically are. It is not yet a common practice in society other than some games and entertainment applications which means not every phone or tablet has the AR quality with them. That means teachers can not use it as a common practise because it would cause inequalty and take too much time. Teacher only can use is in an environment where every students has equal opportunity which is highly possible in future in terms of AR.     We were asked to prepare an activity for students to use AR tech. We prepared it with the help of some apps. I mostly used Canva and Youtube 360 videos for this activity. The hardest part of this assignment was to find a properly working app that students can use it easily. I could not find a properly functioning app so I decided to do it with 360 vide

Flipped class

There are several methods to enhance the quality of language teaching. One of those methods is "Flipped Classroom". What does flipped Classroom means. Teacher record themselves or their voice like they're in the classroom and share the video to a available place that students can reach is easily. It can be YouTube or Whatsapp group chats etc.       The purpose of this method is to improve time management in a classroom. As you know in Turkey we have a lot of students in a classroom and not enough time to focus on everybody. By applying the flipped method teacher lecture students at home and practice in classroom. This leaves the teacher a great deal of time to focus on the students. Also the teacher can use the same video as much as the curriculum stays the same. Students can ask their questions via their social media. For YouTube they can comment on the video for example.    The hard part of this assignment for me was not having real students. Since I was not getting fe

Corpus-based activity

Resim
Corpus based activity is made in a technological classes mostly. Because it requires students to use computers to be able to do the activities. To my experience it was fun to learn using a website that helps me to learn about a language. I also think that students would enjoy navigating through internet and learn language at the same time. This type of activity also encourages autonomy for students as they take over their learning process a bit.  The hardest part is to give clear direction and explanation for the website. If teacher is not clear enough students will probably get lost during the activities. Other than that it is a perfect activity type for technological classes in today's world. But we can also adapt it to non- technological class by putting the teacher in the place of a computer of course. That way technology wouldn't be inequality for some students.      For my activity I tried to help students to learn the difference between "tell and say" ve

Creating a Timeline

Resim
The task that I did today was creating a timeline. It might not sound ineresting maybe even boring but ı had a good time making it. Thanks to a website called Visme. It made the task enjoyable but one downside of this web site which is a really bad downside is that it does not allow you to download the final draft. You need to pay to download. I did not pay but I took a screen shot of it but if you need movement in whatever material you are making it is not eligible for the task.      This task helps us to understand the improvement of the using the computer in language teaching and learning. Language Learning and Technology; Past, present and future

Language education, like everything else, has changed with the invention of the computer. There are several approaches to usage of computer in education and some of the earliest of them are CAI(computer-aided instruction) which put emphasis om both the machine and the learners and PLATO(Programmed Logic for Automated Teaching Operations) created in 1960s which allows learners to have multiple choice test and activities that gets harder step by step.      Teachers started to use computers more commonly with the invention of microcomputers in 1980s. A lot of programs were real-life simulations and authentic. Learners are given options to choose what to say in situatons like buying groceries and they cannot get them unless they answer correctly.     ARPANET( advanced research projects agency network) cooperated with some research universities. At first they started with the text-based MUDs(multi-user dungeons, based on Adventure and Dungeons and Dragons) because of the lack of cont
